Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin is still celebrating his victory from this past Saturday night as he not only had a homecoming back to Brooklyn, NY, but also won his first world title against Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam.

When Quillin appeared on the most recent edition of BoxingScene’s official radio show The Boxing Lab, he was asked what his thoughts were on a potential fight with Gennady Golovkin who just had his HBO debut in September and looked like a human wrecking machine.

“It’s a mega fight. He’s got some qualities about himself that make people consider him murderous. He’s got over 400 amateur fights [so] he’s supposed to look the way he looks right now. If that fight is going to be made it’s going to be made regardless of who’s behind it because it’s a fight people want to see and it’s a fight Kid Chocolate is of course willing to take because how can you call yourself the best if you’re not willing to fight the best” said Quillin.

Even though Quillin is open to such a tough assignment, he also feels the fight needs to make sense all around and Golovkin might need to make a bigger name for himself. It’s the same sentiment CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer expressed in a story by Robert Morales that ran on BoxingScene.

“I’ve been building my name here in the States, in this country for a while now and he just burst on the scene. He just came out of nowhere and they already label him this thing right now. You know I went from HBO to Showtime and this is my second performance on Showtime so is it that easy for a guy just to come out here and they just ready to put money behind him? Now it’s about organizing my team to make sure the fight makes sense in every aspect for myself. Not just for the money but for the legacy part and the promotion” shared the New York native.

Quillin admits the decision on who he fights next will also rely heavily on his current manager and advisor Al Haymon and who he feels is the best option. But make no mistake about it, Quillin wants to challenge himself against the best and other champions of his division including Sergio Martinez.

“Besides Gennady you got Daniel Geale from Australia who’s a unified champion and has the IBF and WBA championships and I just think that guys like that deserve credit too. You got guys like Sergio Martinez who’s considered the best in the division so why even just look at the mediocre guys who are damn near in the same shoes as me” said Quillin.

“[Why] look past the one I really want which is Sergio Martinez who is considered arguably the pound for pound best. Everyone else is just trying to get to where he’s at. When I fight him then I can get that status and then from there, I can choose and pick the fight that’s the most important to me”.

Quillin’s future plans will be worked on by him and his team in the coming months and in the meantime, he’s soaking in being a champion and spending time and celebrating his achievement with his family.

Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin se sigue celebrando su victoria de este pasado sábado por la noche, ya que no sólo tuvo un regreso a casa de vuelta a Brooklyn, Nueva York, pero también ganó su primer título mundial contra Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam.

Cuando Quillin apareció en la edición más reciente de la radio oficial BoxingScene Mostrar el Laboratorio de Boxeo, se le preguntó lo que sus pensamientos estaban en una potencial pelea con Gennady Golovkin que acaba de tener su debut en HBO en septiembre y parecía una máquina de demolición humana.

No sólo por el dinero sino por la parte heredada y la promoción ", compartió el nativo de Nueva York.

Quillin admite que la decisión sobre quién pelea próximo también dependerá en gran medida de su actual manager y asesor Al Haymon y que él cree que es la mejor opción. Pero no nos equivoquemos al respecto, Quillin quiere desafiarse a sí mismo contra los mejores campeones y de otra índole de su división entre ellos Sergio Martínez.

"Además Gennady tienes Daniel Geale de Australia que es un campeón unificado y tiene la FIB y AMB campeonato y yo creo que les guste que merecen el crédito también. Tienes gente como Sergio Martínez, quien es considerado el mejor en la división, ¿por qué incluso con tan sólo mirar a los chicos mediocres que son malditos en los mismos zapatos que yo ", dijo Quillin.

"[Por qué] Mira más allá de la que yo realmente quiero es que Sergio Martínez, quien es considerado sin duda el mejor libra por libra. Todo el mundo está tratando de llegar a donde está. Al luchar contra él, entonces puedo conseguir ese estado y luego a partir de ahí, puedo elegir y escoger la pelea eso es lo más importante para mí ".

Planes futuros de Quillin se trabajará por él y su equipo en los próximos meses y, mientras tanto, ha de ser una inmersión en el tiempo y el gasto de campeón y celebrar sus logros con su familia.

¿Chávez Jr? Pero ¿no habíamos quedado en que era un globo? ¿Lee? De todos modos, tienes razón, está división está super interesante.

Lo es, pero. En esa categoria puede explotar las ventajas y basios legales del reglamento que lo hacen casi invencible.

Will Peter Quillin avoid Golovkin now?

peter quillin gennady golovkin By Allan Fox: Peter Quillin (28-0, 20 KO’s) did a great job of knocking down WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam six times en route to winning a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night to capture his WBO 160 pound title. That was definitely a good first step for the 29-year-old Quillin in making a name for himself in the sport. But fans want more from him than that.

They want to see Quillin take on the biggest names and the best fighters at middleweight, and not look to avoid the top guys. One top guy that hardcore boxing fans badly want to see Quillin fight next is WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s).

This is the guy that no one seems to be in a big hurry to fight after the way that Golovkin blew through a really tough fighter in Grzegorz Proksa last September in a 5th round TKO. Proksa has power in the same league as Quillin and is arguably tougher guy to fight because of his southpaw stance and what not. But Golovkin just moved Proksa down and knocked him down three times in the fight before the bout was eventually halted.

Quillin is pretty much a no name in the United States. He’s fought on some undercards but he’s not well known among casual boxing fans is more or less in the same boat at Golovkin in terms of being an unknown in America. Quillin would like to get fights against the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Sergio Martinez, but that of course isn’t going to happen. Chavez Jr. fights for Top Rank, and Martinez isn’t going to waste time fighting an unknown like Quillin.

This means that if Quillin is going to make a name for himself he’s going to have to take some chances and fight the likes of Golovkin to make it happen. Quillin won’t make a name for himself just defending his WBO title against the little known contenders they have ranked, because there’s nobody ranked that will give him much of anything. Quillin will be resigned to fighting on undercards for his entire career unless he takes a body step and goes after Golovkin. He’s not going to get a fight against IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale because he’s already booked up with fights well into next year, he’s not going to get Chavez Jr, and he’s not going to get a fight with Martinez as I’ve previously said. Quillin won’t pick up a name by simply defending his WBO title over and over again against the weak opposition they have ranked. No, the only thing he can do is take on Golovkin to try and hold down multiple titles.

I wish I could say that Quillin will take the chance to fight Golovkin but I don’t think it’s going to happen. Quillin looked awfully vulnerable in beating N’Dam last Saturday and Golovkin would be a real nightmare for him because all those shots that N’Dam was hitting Quillin with last Saturday would be potential knockout shots for Golovkin if he were the one landing them. Quillin showed a serious hole in his game with his inability to fight on the inside. That’s an area where Golovkin is an expert and I can see him getting in close and knocking Quillin out cold in two or three rounds.

Quillin’s promoters will likely keep him away from Golovkin for the remainder of his career unless Golovkin suddenly starts to lose it at some point.

Él no va a conseguir una pelea contra IBF campeón mediano Daniel Geale porque él ya ha reservado con peleas hasta bien entrado el próximo año, él no va a sacar a Chávez Jr, y él no va a conseguir una pelea con Martínez como he dicho anteriormente. Quillin no recogerá un nombre con sólo defender su título de la OMB y otra vez contra la débil oposición que han clasificado. No, lo único que puede hacer es asumir Golovkin para tratar de sujetar varios títulos.

Me gustaría poder decir que Quillin tendrá la oportunidad de luchar Golovkin pero yo no creo que vaya a suceder. Quillin se veía terriblemente vulnerable al vencer el sábado pasado y N'Dam Golovkin sería una verdadera pesadilla para él, porque todos esos tiros que N'Dam se golpean con Quillin pasado sábado sería disparos posibles eliminatorias para Golovkin si fuera el aterrizaje ellos. Quillin mostró un agujero en serio su juego con su incapacidad para luchar en el interior. Esa es un área donde Golovkin es un experto y puedo ver lo Acercarse y tocar Quillin fuera de combate en dos o tres rondas.
