At the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, Quebec, Ali Funeka (30-2, 25KOs) and Joan Guzman (29-0, 17KOs) fought to a very disputed draw. Funeka appeared to win the majority of the rounds and battered Guzman down the stretch. The IBF lightweight title is vacant. The scores were 114-114 a draw, 116-112 for Funeka and 114-114 for the draw.

Guzman came out swinging in the first round, backing Funeka to the ropes and trying to land something big to the head and body. Funeka backed him off and started using his long jab. Guzman was able to sneak in some good counters. The second was more of the same, Guzman coming forward with some very good punches. Funeka used his jab but couldn't land many counters. Funeka's jab was making some waves in the third round. He started tagging up Guzman's face and caused his nose to start bleeding.

During the fourth, another cut opened up under the right eye of Guzman. Funeka continued to bust up the face of Guzman with his jab and counters. In the fifth, Guzman and Funeka traded some heavy shots. Guzman's face was taking more punishment and blood continued to flow from his face and nose. Funeka continued to control the action in the sixth. Guzman was throwing one punch at a time, allowing Funeka to outwork him. They traded power punches at the end of the round.

Guzman began to do better in the seventh round, landing some very good shots to the body while Funeka stood behind the jab. In the eight round, Funeka blasted Guzman with a right hand and nearly put him away as Guzman appeared to be out on his feet. He managed to survive. In the ninth, Funeka continued to batter Guzman with some heavy punches. Funeka continued to beat Guzman up in the tenth. Guzman's face was a bloody, swollen mess. Funeka continued to jab and land very hard combinations.

Guzman stood his ground in the eleventh by staying on the inside but took some good shots for his trouble. In the twelfth, Guzman went for broke and was very game. He tried pressing forward and trading shots with Funeka to score a late knockout. The bigger man held him Guzman off and pounded him until the bell.

El rumano-candiense Lucian Bute retuvo con propiedad su título supermediano de la Federación Internacional de Boxeo (FIB), al noquear a los 2:57 segundos del cuarto asalto al mexicano Librado Andrade, en el combate estelar de una cartelera que este sábado por la noche fue organizada en el Pepsi Colisee de la ciudad de Québec Canadá, y que fue transmitida en vivo por HBO Boxing After Dark.
