Fightnews.com spoke to promoter Ahmet Oner, who announced that former heavyweight title challenger Odlanier Solis is fully recovered from a serious knee injury and will return November 26 in Turkey.

We also caught up with former heavyweight contender Larry Donald who said he’s currently preparing for his first fight since 2007, and comebacking heavyweight Andrew Golota is on his radar.

For a fighter who just eight months ago was being hailed as a potential saviour of the ailing heavyweight division, Cuban enigma Odlanier Solis has cut a remarkably low-key figure of late.

Solis' big night ended in disaster in Cologne in March, when he ripped apart his right knee in the first round of his fight against Vitali Klitschko, and was stretchered from the ring with cat-calls ringing in his ears.

Yet Solis had no reason to be ashamed. Once scans revealed the serious nature of his injury, his promoter Ahmet Ohner wasted little time calling for a rematch, while Solis added: "If I get a second chance I will win the title."

It was Ohner's assertion that even in the two minutes and 59 seconds the fight lasted, Solis showed enough to suggest he might give Klitschko problems. Rehabilitation and redemption appeared Solis' most likely route.

Yet eight months later, and with his knee apparently healed, the silence surrounding Solis remains deafening. A proposed comeback in Turkey three weeks ago passed by, with Solis himself admitting he knew nothing of the contest.

This coming Saturday night, Solis is once again slated to make his return on an Arena Box Promotion show in Trabzon, Turkey, after Ohner indicated he would be fighting in an interview three weeks ago.

However, the Cuban has been entirely absent from the pre-fight build-up and, although he remains listed on internet schedules, no opponent has been named. Calls to Ohner's Duisburg office went unanswered.

Solis' lengthy absence is perplexing. While Klitschko, nearing retirement, is unlikely to waste any more time on a rematch, the likes of so-called current WBA champion Alexander Povetkin appear eminently beatable.

Knee injury apart, Solis remains to all intents and purposes an unbeaten fighter, and with a glittering amateur career behind him, including three world titles and a stoppage win over David Haye in 2001, he can clearly fight.

Indeed, a professional clash with the allegedly retired Haye would appear to make absolute sense, giving both a chance to prove themselves ahead of another crack at one of the Klitschkos. Yet seldom, if at all, has it been mooted.

It would be no surprise to discover that Solis himself is at the heart of his latest leave of absence. Despite that undoubted talent, he has often been pilloried for a seemingly lackadaisical approach to his craft.

Prior to beating Klitschko, Solis looked positively lethargic in pawing away old plodder Ray Austin, and his next-best opponents, Monte Barrett and Carl David Drummond, were hardly world-beaters.

Yet in an era where has-beens or never-weres like Nikolai Valuev, Ruslan Chagaev and Evander Holyfield get routinely resurrected for world title shots, it would be harsh on Solis if his only opportunity ended on a stretcher.

The sooner Solis is back and posing some sort of threat in a shallow heavyweight scene, the better for all concerned. Where and when that comeback begins still appears to be anybody's guess.

Solis comeback delayed again; “La Sombra” unable to leave Miami because of legal issues

A couple of weeks ago promoter Ahmet Oner announced that Cuban Olympic gold medalist and multiple world amateur champion Odlanier Solis would give his comeback from an eight months injury lay-off this Saturday (Nov. 26) as co-feature of the WBC silver welterweight championship between Selcuk Aydin and Jo Jo Dan in Trabzon, Turkey. Solis and his team were scheduled to leave Miami today but couldn’t fly out because of pending legal issues. A court order prohibits “La Sombra” to leave the United States until mid December.

“I’m very disappointed”, said promoter Ahmet Oner who received the bad news this afternoon in Turkey. “From what I’m told it’s not too serious and the whole thing should be settled soon but, of course, it annoys me that my fighter cannot fulfil his obligations and take a fight he has signed for. We all make mistakes – and I know what I’m talking about – but it’s important that you learn from your mistakes. I hope this is what Solis does as well.”

The good news is however that Solis would have been medically cleared and fit to fight only eight months after seriously injuring his knee when challenging Vitali Klitschko back in March. “He was ready to go”, adds Oner. “Now we’ll see what we will do. We will probably bring him back early next year when all legal issues have been solved. I am still convinced that Solis is the only heavyweight in the world today who can actually beat both Klitschko brothers. It’s too bad he cannot prove that this Saturday in Turkey.”

El Regreso de Odlanier Solís se aplaza una vez más, Asuntos Legales

Un par de semanas el promotor Ahmet Öner anunció que medallista de oro cubano en Juegos Olímpicos y varios del mundo amateur campeón Odlanier Solís le daría a su regreso de una lesión de ocho meses de despido de este sábado (26 de noviembre) como co-estelar del campeonato welter del CMB de plata entre Selcuk Aydin y Jo Jo Dan en Trabzon, Turquía.

Solís y su equipo tenían previsto salir de Miami hoy, pero no podía volar debido a la pendiente de asuntos legales. Una orden judicial prohíbe "La Sombra" para salir de los Estados Unidos hasta mediados de diciembre. "Estoy muy decepcionado", dijo el promotor Ahmet Oner que recibieron la mala noticia esta tarde en Turquía. . "De lo que me dicen que no es demasiado grave y todo el asunto debe resolverse pronto, pero, por supuesto, me molesta que mi boxeador no puede cumplir con sus obligaciones y tener una pelea que ha firmado para Todos cometemos errores - y yo sé lo que estoy hablando -. pero es importante que usted aprenda de sus errores Espero que esto sea lo que Solís también lo hace ".

Y en que problema se metio el Gordo ahora?

A ver que hay de verdad en todo esto. Primero pensé que se trataba de la esperada justificación de por qué no iba a pelear (eso venía por ahí, y ya había sucedido la vez anterior). Después al leer la nota con más atención todo parece indicar, que hay una disputa entre Odlanier y su promotor. Será que este último lo está presionando para que pelee, mientras Solis se resiste a hacerlo?

Ese mismo presentimiento tengo yo. Oner esta loco porque Solis pelee, mientras tanto Solis lleva anos padeciendo del sindrome del BIG STEAK.
