Early talks have taken place to have Celestino Caballero take on WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa on September 11 in Las Vegas. Gamboa was set to face WBC champion Elio Rojas in an HBO televised unification bout. Rojas injured his shoulder a few days ago and he's likely out of the fight, according to several sources close to the situation.

Caballero's promoter, Lou DiBella, spoke with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum about the possibility of having his fighter take Rojas' place against Gamboa. In an earlier report on BoxingScene.com, Caballero made a demand for a 50/50 split with Gamboa. While DiBella understands his fighter's position, he knows a 50/50 demand is not realistic. DIbella made, what he calls, "a very strong proposal" to Arum.

"I understand why Caballero feels he should receive 50/50. He's a double world champion and a pound-for-pound fighter and he accomplished more in his career than a lot of the other fighters in his division, but to get a fight with a guy like Gamboa you have to entice him. I made an offer to Arum, and it was not even close to a 50/50 deal. If my competitors knew the number [in Caballero's favor], they would say it's too low," DiBella told BoxingScene.com.

"Caballero wants the fight. Gamboa would get the bulk of the money. If they turn this offer down, there is no other explanation than Gamboa being scared to take the fight."

While DiBella would not disclose the number, a third-party advised BoxingScene that Gamboa [per DiBella's pitch] could possibly receive more than 60% of money on the table from HBO [which is rumored to be a seven figure amount].

A former a former 2004 Cuban Olympic gold medalist, Gamboa (18-0, 15 knockouts) was first scheduled to face Salido (34-10-2, 22 KOs) on July 24 before Salido sustained a cut during training and pulled out of their bout.

Rojas (22-1, 13 KOs) was then chosen over by Gamboa over Salido and WBA super bantamweight (122 pounds) king Celestino Caballero (34-2, 23 KOs).

"We've suggested a replacement for Rojas and HBO is considering it. It's another champion, Orlando Salido," said Arum. "Salido is a really big puncher and a fellow champion and that makes for a really good fight."

But Arum said that because of Caballero's height, Gamboa would need more time to prepare for him.

Savia k me saldrian con eso y en cierta parte tienen razon. Pero una vez explike k si las escusas las da el promotor keda mal el promotor ante la opinion mundial, pero si las escusas las da el boxeador, keda mal el boxeador, por eso todo el mundo dice k juanma le tiene miedo a Caba.

Este caso es lo mismo q un welter le ponga de momento de sustituto a paul willians , Gamboa peleara con caballero pero en su momento caballero por su estatura le exige a Gamboa una preparacion diferente q cualquier otro pluma , no es miedo , esta pelea probablemente la estemos viendo para fines de ano de seguro no es miedo de parte de Gamboa les aseguro por la forma de Gamboa q cuando comiensen los rumores q el le tiene miedo a caballero va a exigirla pelea publicamente

Con estas excusas baratas de Arum, cada vez veo mas lejos la pelea de Juanma/Gamboa....este tipo no quiere que ninguno de ellos pierda y no la veo por lo menos en el 2011 tampoco
